Over the weekend was my cub scout pack holiday. We took the cubs to the Lea for two fun filled days. After ariving at 10am we set up the campsite and had opening parade. Then Baloo and I organised a challenge course which consisted of getting the cubs to stand behind a cone and throw a tennis ball through a plastic square (or bounce it in the square if it was placed on the ground) and then into a tennis ball. They had three attempt to achieve this at about 8 different stations and they earnt one point for getting it through the square and another for getting it in the bucket. The maximum points achieved was 13 point by Mathew who managed to shoot it straight into the bucket on almost every station.
After lunch we cooked damper on the fire. Every time we tried to light a fire it took ages due to the fact that all the wood was wet. (Incert bad joke about cooking damper on a damp fire). Then I took a rotation doing sciency stuff and playing balloon volleyball. The science stuff was just making volcanoes out of vinegar and bi-carb and also placing balloons in hot and cold water and noting the difference in size. It worked ok but didnt take much time.
Before tea we watched the first half of the Jungle Book and then dinner was lots and lots of home made pizza. I then took a turn in the kitchen and helped to make apple crumble and custard. I was determined not to let my custard get lumpy but as we took a break to run the campfire (which went well) I got back to solid cold custard which managed to be recovered with heat and more milk.
After dessert was a few rounds of spotlight or storm the lantern which was lots of fun. The cubs and I went to bed around 10:30 and we got up at 6am to watch the second half of the movie.
The mornings activities included making muffins for morning tea and hiking up the hill to play games on the oval. On the way Tom found a nest of sugar ants and we got some good pics of him covered in them.
The afternoon was packing up and attempting the 50c challenge which is where you have to cook a marshmallow on a fire made on top of a 50c piece. A few groups managed it but we ran out of matches before every one got their fire lit.
