Today was Ingrid's 22nd birthday so I got up early and organised a few things before heading over to her house at 10:30am to go for a ride. We decided to take Bounce and Twistie to Huntingfield where there are gallop tracks but after crossing the creek, and heading off along the road we paused to have a drink. Bounce took this as a cue to bolt for home so Ingrid was left holding on to her reins with one hand while holding onto my drinkbottle in the other. She managed to pull Bounce up and hardly spilt a drop of water. We put the bottle away and again headed out to Huntingfield. We rode to the end of the road but decided we didnt really have time to get all the way to Huntingfield cause we had to be back for the vet by 4pm. So we turned the ponies around and Bounce again took off for home. I think we went the fastest I have ever been on Twistie and it was all slightly down hill. I could think of nothing other than hearing Twistie's hooves pounding heavily on the hard dirt road and trying to pull her up. However, it was not as scary as the time Bounce took off at Liz's property cause at least this time we were going in a straight line and I could see where we were going. We finally got the ponies undercontrol and rode back though Liz's parents place to see if she was home. It turns out that she wasnt but the property manager (they have an olive grove) was there and he told us to look out for something in the creek on the way back. Neither Ingrid or I really heard what he said but we guessed he was talking about snakes. And true to his word as we were about to cross the creek Ingrid stopped and said there was a large snake infront of her. After a little bit it moved off and she said she couldn't see it anymore. So Ingrid crossed the creek and I followed (not after having a bit of a look for the snake) And I saw it. It was 5-6cm in diameter and between a meter and a meter and a half long. A big black tiger snake. It was sitting right next to the track, in the bushes.
The five of us (Ingrid, Bounce, Twistie, Me and the snake) left this encounter unscathed but slightly rattled. We have decided not to cross the creek for the rest of summer. The snake was just a little close for comfort.
After 5pm the vet came and gave both the ponies their tetnus and strangles injections and he gave Bounce a clean bill of health and was very impressed with her considering she is a 19/20 year old grey. (Usually greys have cancers/melanomas by that age). He didnt check Twistie out since he already knew her but was pleased that she was going so well after all her problems earlier in the year.
I then went to Ingrid's for tea but since we had nothing for desert Ingrid and I went to Woolies. As usuall when we walked past the hair dye isle. I said "So what colour are we dying my hair today." I am never serious when I say this I just think it is funny to hear what colours people say. But Ingrid chose a colour, bought it and then back at her house proceeded to dye my hair. So now it is a purpley colour. It is ok for now but I do hope it washes out before graduation.
P.S. Anita you should be pleased - remember how you gave me some undies in a photo frame and told me that more people in the world should have undies in frames? Well I gave Ingrid a pair of undies in a frame and also a pair of socks in the same frame. The idea behind it being that she had to get things that came in pairs such as a pair of shoes, two pairs of not odd socks, a pair of too small undies, a pair of pencils, a pair of stirrups, a pair of birthday cards etc.

On another note Journal Hub have yet again deleted my old blog. Luckily I had time to copy most of it into a word document. It is a shame about the bits I didnt get time to do though. But still it is better than nothing.
