On Friday I went out to lunge Twistie only to discover that she had twisted her off side fore shoe. I removed it and spent a good deal of time trying to straighten it. This prooved difficult as I do not have a driving hammer or an anvil only a cement ground, a heavy rock, and my little shoeing hammer which is designed purely for tapping nails in and not for bending metal shoes. But after a while I suceeded and then managed to put the shoe back on Twistie.
This saga ment that she did not get any exersize on Friday and due to my enormous work load she hadnt had any work since the previous sunday. So when Ingrid and I decided to go for a ride yesterday afternoon both the ponies were a little fresh. We took them out to Liz's house and rode along the tracks. Bounce used to belong to Liz so Bounce knows these tracks really well and likes to gallop along sections. This is fine on the route we normally take but then Ingrid and I decided to follow a new track. We were jogging along nicely (Bounce in front, Twistie behind, as per usual) when Ingrid suddenly calls back "Sorry Tori, I cant hold her" and Bounce takes off with Twistie following. We gallop up some track, down a little way, jumping small bushes and making sharp turns. I might just add in here that some of the tracks at Liz's are simply horse width paths cut into head heigh bushes so you can not see anywhere other than what is directly infront of you. Finally after almost running into the dam Ingrid was able to pull Bounce up and hense Twistie stopped. No one was worse for ware after our adventure but it is not one I would like to repeat too often.
