Today at Tafe was our second day of tracking vertebrate pest species. We went out to Pengilly scrub and were noting the presence of rabbit, fox, and dog as well as the locals; kangaroo, possum, birds, goannas. However, we came across some scats that looked like sheep but slightly different. Pat got out her scats and tracks book and we thought it might be deer. This was odd as deer are not supposed to be in this region and have not previously been sighted here. In order to collect a sample we all snacked down my packet of tiny teddies before placing the scat in the bag. Pat rolled down the top and asked me to look after it until we left the site. As soon as I put it in my pocket she yelled out for all to hear "Tori's got poo in her pants!". Such a mature lecturer.
Anyways later we spotted a deer. We also found a dog skull with a bullet hole in it. Lots of kangaroo bones. And lots of evidence of foxes. Not really the best preserved reserve.

That sounds so much more interesting than anything I have done lately. I miss doing ecological surveys out in the field :(
And mature lectures are boring - the immature ones are way more fun :(
See you tomorrow. Yay!
