Yesterday was so much fun. I took Twistie to my friend Pat's house to move her cattle. There was Pat on her old horse Cajun, another friend on Pat's horse Maleah, and Me on Twist. We set off from Pat's house at about 10am and rode to her other property. The first task was moving some alpacas and her sheep from the front paddock. Twistie was not keen on this idea as Alpacas are "The Enemy" and not to be trusted or gotten close to. So while the other two worked she hung back with her worried ears on. Next we had to go in through the bottom gate of a side paddock and move a mob of cattle from there up to the rest of the cattle at the top and move them out the top gate. This worked well until two calves broke from the rest and bolted back down to the bottom gate. Twistie raced after them and managed to get one out the gate but the other was stupidly running in the opposite direction. Pat had to bring the main herd back so it would go out the gate to be with them.
We then had to take all the cows down the road and back to Pat's house. This was lots of fun with Twistie pushing the cows from behind but Pat's two horses misbehaved the whole time as they were continually trying to be back next to each other or trying to kick at Twistie. Once we had the cows back we untacked the ponies and separated the cattle into two groups. The ones that were going to have calves and the others which needed to be taken back. We decided to take the cattle back while they were still tired. This meant however that the horses were still tired too but since the cattle behaved the horses did not have to do much.
On the last leg of the journey (back to Pat's house with the horses) Pat's horses danced around trying to bolt home but Twistie was so tired she just plodded along with her head down low.
I think we all had fun but me and Twistie in particular as we managed to work together with out much thought.
